Why you should vote for Wade

I am excited about the opportunity to serve my neighbors here in the City of Crystal. Having been a resident of Crystal for the last 9 years I know that Crystal is a hidden gem of a city that has a hometown feel with quick access to anywhere in the Twin Cities.

We don’t need any more divisive politics in our town like what we see in Washington DC or St. Paul, we need people who can work together to build solutions that are community focused, fiscally responsible, and common sense.

Three areas that that I would focus on as a city council member are:

  1. Cleaning up the city and updating aging infrastructure.
  2. Re-vitalizing Crystal’s downtown area around Bass Lake Road and Douglas.
  3. Common sense transit that serves the community.

About Wade

I am a lifelong Minnesotan and an only child of a single mom. I grew up in Bloomington and later Richfield, where I went to high school.

I have worked in technology for most of my professional career of 30 years. I currenly work as a senior software engineer for a local health care technology company.

I also serve as the director for a local car club called Midwest Mopars. I have served the club as a volunteer for 12 years now and work with a really great group of volunteers to put on a national car show called Mopars in the Park.

As an entrepeneur I have started 3 companies, the first was a handyman company in which I earned a general contractors license, the second a communications company for financial services and my current startup, Middletwin, is a platform for clubs to use to manange membership, events, and communications.

Family

I am 55 years old. My wife and I have been married for 33 years and have 3 amazing daughters and son-in-laws and 7 grandchildren. The oldest graduated high school this year and is pursuing a career in welding while the youngest is less than a year old.

Environment

This is an image of Twin Lake here in Crystal. Many of the street sewers in Crystal (and Robbinsdale and Brooklyn Center) feed directly into Twin Lake. This image is the result of 1 neighbor dumping something into a street storm drain.

Back in the 1950’s, before city streets were developed with storm sewers, Twin Lake was crystal clear… it can be again.

How? My plan would include:

  • Marking all street storm drains to indicate that they feed to lakes or streams.
  • Implementing Adopt a Storm Drain (https://mn.adopt-a-drain.org/) here in Crystal so responsible neighbors can clean up the storm sewers before stuff goes into the lake.
  • Running city street sweepers on a regular basis (everything that goes into the street goes into the lake/stream) and before major rain events.
  • Using stenciling every 100 yards along curbing to indicate “no grass clippings” in the street.

Education is the biggest hurdle to overcome when dealing with this, and neighbor turnover is a constant issue, but by putting the education directly in the streets and by having storm drain adopters, I believe we can make a huge impact on Twin Lake and other natural waters right in our back yard.
